The Pickaway County Sheriff has arrested five people in connection with a fatal shooting and theft of firearms from an Orient residence Sunday.
Sheriff Robert Radcliff says all five people charged with Aggravated Burglary and Theft are from the Columbus area, but one subject is the grandson of the deceased.
84-year-old Thomas Whitson of Darby Creek Road was found shot to death in his home, where Pickaway County Sheriff detectives discovered that firearms had also been stolen. Their investigation took them to a West Park Avenue address in Columbus, where some of the stolen guns were recovered.
Arrested were Whitson's grandson, 30-year-old Shaun M. Lawson, along with 20-year-old Kyle M. Robinson. 20-year-old Joshua P. Johnson was later apprehended at a Grove City address, then two 17-year-old juveniles were later arrested. They are Jesse Akers of Forrest Creek Road, Columbus and Jordan Legg of Charles Drive, Pataskala.
Sheriff Radcliff says five of the seven guns they have recovered thus far, were from the victims home. Radcliff says homicide charges are pending review by Pickaway County Prosecutor Judy Wolford.
