A 14 year old boy is charged with murder after his father was found shot-to-death inside their Scioto County home.
Sheriff's deputies were called to 678 Disterdick Road in Franklin Furnace just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday. That's where they found Michael P. Riley, 48, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Capt. David Hall says Riley's son was arrested at a home on Junior Road where the 911 call was placed. He said the boy knew the people that lived there, but didn't want to reveal their relationship. He says the boy rode his bike four miles to the home.
"After questioning him and processing the crime scene we consulted with the prosecutor's office and it was determined that he would be charged with one count of murder," said Hall.
The boy told investigators he shot his father because he had been abused.
"He gave the indication that he had just reached his breaking point with the verbal abuse," Hall said.
Hall says he was not aware of previous calls to the home, but the family had moved there from Ironton in December.
The teen is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Ross County.
