Adena Takes Big Step Toward SVC Baseball Title

The Adena Warriors are on the door step of clinching the SVC Baseball Championship following their 3-2 win over Zane Trace Friday.

Only Piketon remains mathematically in the hunt, as they beat Southeastern 11-3 Friday, keeping them three games back with four to play.

The Warriors, whose only SVC loss this year has been to Zane Trace, jumped to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first and one in the second.

The Pioneers scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but stranded runners at second and third base in the sixth, which could have given them the lead.

Three different Adena players drove-in runs with singles. They were Ethan Sheppard, Jonathan Thomas and Shad Dailey. Eli Kunkle went 2/4 at the plate and scored a run.

Gunner Free was the winning pitcher, yielding five hits.

Adena improves to (9-1) in the SVC while Zane Trace drops to (6-5).

In the win, Adena Coach Ron Free wanted to express his team's thoughts were with Piketon graduate and OSU freshman pitcher Zach Farmer, who learned this week he is suffereing from leukemia. The Warriors baseball players are wearing the sticker seen below, on their helmets in Farmer's honor.
