Defense Sparks LE District Title Win

"Defense wins championships" is a sport statement that is decades old. It proved true for the (23-2) Logan Elm Braves basketball team again Saturday night, in their 61-45 Division 2 District Championship over the (21-4) Warren Warriors.

The Braves checked the Warriors on 16/51 shooting from the field, while they shot 20/45 for 44%- including 6/16 from the three-point arc. Logan Elm went 15/24 from the foul line, while Warren was 10/15.

Warren won the rebound battle 35-26, but the Braves only committed 5 turnovers, while Warren had 13 against the tough LE defense.

Logan Elm was led by District "Player of the Year" Dillon Young with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while Trent Congrove added 13 points. Casey Tyler had 8 points and 8 rebound and Waylon Artrip came in off the bench for the injured Logan Thompson- scoring 8 points. Thompson left the game late in the first half, after injuring his nose in a fall. Coach Doug Stiverson told WKKJ Sports after the game, they believe it is a broken nose.

Warren had two players in double figures, as Evan French scored 15 points and Michael Hall added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Logan Elm now faces Columbus Bishop Watterson in the Regional Semis Thursday at 6:15pm at the Ohio University Convocation Center. 94 Country WKKJ and IHeart Radio airtime will be 6pm.
