Zane Trace High School has a new boys varsity basketball coach. Allen Koker was hired by a 5-0 vote Monday night at the Zane Trace Board of Education meeting.
Koker, who Superintendent Jerry Mowery says will also remain as athletic director "for now", led the Westfall Mustangs boys basketball program between 1995-2000, and included a conference title and SVC Coach of the Year honor in the 1999-2000 season. He's been the AD at Zane Trace the last couple of years.
Bryan Alley, who was non-renewed in the coaching position, confirmed to Clear Channel Sports Director Mike Smith, that he had applied to be rehired for the coaching position.
Alley has coached the Pioneers for the last several years, including a 2009-10 SVC title, where he was also SVC Coach of the Year.
The Pioneers had a year of highs and lows last season, reaching as high as #5 in the state Associated Press poll, but failed to win either the SVC championship and was upset by Wheelersburg, despite ZT being a #2 seed in the sectional finals.
