Lacrosse Cavs Suffer Heartbreaking Loss in OT

Marysville outlasted Chillicothe winning their Girls Lacrosse match 13-12 in sudden death overtime Saturday. Audrey Minor found the back of the net around Chillicothe goalie Samantha Watkins for the game winner.

Trailing 12-11, the Cavs’ Nicole Camponeschi scored the tying goal with 1:02 left in regulation. Camponeschi guarded a throw in by Marysville Goalie Cassie Todd, deflecting the ball into the net. The goal came as Chillicothe had eight attempts at the net in the final three minutes.

The game had ten lead changes and was tied nine times, including 7-7 at intermission.

Chillicothe scored three straight goals for their first lead after falling behind 2-0. Bethany Wallingford gave the Cavs’ their first score, the first of her four goals, 4 minutes into the game. Camponeschi followed and Sierra Cydrus put the Cavs ahead 3-2. Maris Corzine scored the last two goals of the first half to knot the game at seven at the 1:18 mark.

Whitney Watts and Cydrus hit back-to-back scores early in the second half, then Marysville took a 10-9 lead before Jera Copley tied the game at 10 with 11:12 left. Wallingford hit for an 11-10 score at 8:32. The Monarchs answered to take the 12-11 advantage before Camponeschi’s late heroics.

Marysville's Courtney Hickey led all scorers with five goals.

Chillicothe slips to 0-3 and is back on the field this Tuesday hosting Hilliard Davidson at McVickers Field at the Mt. Logan Campus. It’s a 6pm face-off.
