Two SVC softball teams will play for regional titles Saturday, as Westfall and Paint Valley advance with wins.
Westfall 4, Wellston 1
The Lady Mustangs scored two runs in both the fourth and seventh innings for a 4-1 win in the Division 3 Regional Softball Semis Thursday.
The first two runs, came thanks to a 2-run homer for the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Golden Rockets countered with one run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI infield single.
Good base running added two more runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Kayla Tackett and Gina Rosshirt accounted for all of the RBI's in the game. Tackett was 2/4 with 2 RBI's while Rosshirt's 2-run homer accounted for the other two runs.
On the pitching slab, Gina Rosshirt held Wellston to just 4 hits in the game and fanned 7 batters and walked 4.
Wellston's Chelsea McManaway pitched well in the loss, fanning 15 Westfall players and yielding 6 hits.
(25-3) Westfall plays unbeaten Wheelersburg for a trip to the State Final Four at Lancaster High School. 94 Country WKKJ and IHeart Radio airtime will be 11:45am Saturday.
Paint Valley 5, Strasburg-Franklin 3
The Lady Bearcats of Paint Valley continued to add to their school history making tournament run, as they are one step away from the State Final Four, following a 5-3 win over state power-house Strasburg Franklin in the Division 4 Regional Semis at Pickerington Central High School.
(21-8) Paint Valley jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with three hits in the frame.
Strasburg Franklin got on the board with a solo homer in the fourth, making it 4-1. PV added an insurance run in the top of the sixth for a 5-1 lead, the Lady Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth making it 5-3.
Freshman pitcher Mikayla Newland continued throwing darts, holding the opponent in check the rest of the way for the win. newland ended the game with 15 strike-outs and checked the Lady Tigers on only three hits.

Paint Valley faces Portsmouth Notre Dame for the regional title at noon Saturday at Pickerington Central High School, with airtime on Mix 106.5FM (WQLX) and IHeart Radio at 11:45am.
